The Navi Mumbai International Airport, Maharashtra witnessed the first landing at the airport, with the successful landing of an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-295 aircraft at its South runway.
Construction for the airport commenced in August 2021 and is likely to be operationalised by early 2025.
The greenfield airport will feature a runway spanning 3,700 metres, modern terminals, and advanced air traffic control systems. Terminal 1 is expected to have a passenger handling capacity of 20 million a year. The airport is targeted to accommodate up to 90 million passengers and 0.8 million tonnes of cargo a year eventually.
