The Air India Group has completed the operational integration and legal merger of Air India Express Limited and AIX Connect Private Limited (earlier known as AirAsia India) to form a low-cost carrier. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted regulatory approval for the same. The newly merged entity will operate under the ‘Air India Express’ name and have IX as the unified airline code. The merger was reportedly completed in less than a year after the new brand of the airline was launched. Air India Express now aims to focus on its future growth and transformation. The fleet size, which has currently expanded to 88 aircraft, is projected to reach more than 100 aircraft by the end of the financial year. Further, Vistara is set to be merged into Air India on November 12, 2024.
