Kerala to receive 21 national highways spanning 747 km length

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has reviewed the progress of 21 National Highway projects spanning 747 km in Kerala. In January 2024, 12 National Highway projects, covering 105 km and valued at Rs 14.64 billion, were inaugurated. Eight key projects, totaling 198 km and worth Rs 40.43 billion are under development, while detailed project reports are being prepared for 1,290 km, estimated at Rs 276.50 billion.

Major projects include the Thiruvananthapuram Bypass, Thalassery-Mahe Bypass, and Kuthiran Tunnel. Kerala’s government will share 25 per cent of land acquisition costs, amounting to Rs 57.48 billion for 16 national highways (NH-66) projects, and 50 per cent for the Thiruvananthapuram Outer Ring Road. Additionally, the state will cover 25 per cent of Rs 44.40 billion for three upcoming greenfield projects.
