Indian Railway (IR) has conducted a successful trial run of the KAVACH 4.0 system on the section between Sawai Madhopur and Indargarh railway station of West Central Railway in Rajasthan. In the first test, the KAVACH-equipped train operating at a speed of 130 km per hour (kmph) halted automatically 50 meter before the red signal. Following this, the KAVACH lowered the train’s speed from 130 kmph to 120 kmph in the permanent speed-restricted zone of 120 kmph and after leaving the zone it reacquired its initial speed of 130 kmph. Also, the train was automatically stopped by the KAVACH once the station master sent message regarding abnormalities in the train’s operations. Thus, in tune with this, a total of seven successful tests were conducted on the section.
Besides, the Union Government has planned to deploy KAVACH on a total of 10,000 locomotives along with an additional armour work of 9,000 km. Further, IR’s entire rail network of 0.1 million km is likely to be covered with KAVACH 4.0 by December 2030.
