Alstom has successfully delivered the first Metropolis metro train for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) phase IV from its manufacturing facility in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh. These trains are engineered for a maximum safe speed of 95 km/h and an operational speed of 85 km/h, featuring grade of automation (GOA) 4 driverless capabilities.
The project, valued at €312 million, also includes the maintenance of 13 train sets for a period of 15 years. Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, these Metropolis trains have been fully designed and manufactured in India.
Awarded in November 2022, the project includes the supply of 52 train sets, each consisting of six cars. It is designed to serve three lines of the DMRC network, extension of line 7 and line 8 and one new gold line 10 which will connect Aerocity to Tughlakabad, covering a total distance of 64.67 km. The production commenced in February 2024.
