Afcons Infrastructure achieves first twin tunnel breakthrough at Delhi metro phase IV

Afcons Infrastructure Limited has successfully achieved its first twin tunnel breakthrough as part of the Delhi metro phase IV underground construction. On September 18, 2024, the breakthrough occurred at the Pulbangash metro station, where two tunnel boring machines, named Bhoomi and Srishti, emerged simultaneously.

The construction of these tunnels took just 14 months, with both machines covering a total length of about 2,997 metres, resulting in an average excavation rate of 8.2 metres per tunnel per day. This tunnelling effort represents the longest drive within the Delhi metro phase-IV works, spanning about 3 km length.
