Air India has launched a refurbishment programme entailing $400 million to overhaul 67 older aircraft.
The programme will commence with 27 narrow-body Airbus A320neo aircraft, followed by 40 wide-body Boeing aircraft. With the revamp, Air India would now offer a three-cabin layout that would feature upgraded seats, carpets, curtains, and upholstery.
The refit programme will be carried out in phases, with around three to four aircraft planned to undergo retrofit per month. The narrow-body fleet is expected to be upgraded by mid-2025. The retrofit of wide-body aircraft is expected to commence by 2025.
The move is a part of the airline’s transformation plans to cater to market demand, where demand for premium options is on a rise.
