MMRDA plans to introduce automated rapid transit system in BKC, Mumbai

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to introduce an automated rapid transit system, commonly referred to as Pod Taxis in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai to improve connectivity.

Sai Green Mobility Private Limited, in collaboration with technology partner M/s. Ultra PRT, is likely to implement this project, where MMRDA will provide the infrastructure and the concessionaire will secure project funding.

The financial model for the project was developed by the TEFS consultant and reviewed by Tata Consulting Engineers. It outlines a construction timeline of three years and a concession period of 30 years, which includes a fixed concession fee and a revenue-sharing arrangement with MMRDA.

This initiative follows a comprehensive techno-economic feasibility study conducted by MMRDA, which evaluated various global technologies. On March 6, 2024, MMRDA approved the project, which has an estimated budget of Rs 10.16 billion under the public-private partnership model.
