Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved a significant milestone in the construction of its underground tunnel segment for phase 4 golden line project. This achievement was marked by the breakthrough of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) at Chhatarpur Mandir station, a crucial point on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor.
A 97 metre-long TBM was used, which drilled through 865 metres stretch to reach Chhatarpur Mandir station. The tunnel, averaging a depth of about 15 metres, was constructed using 618 tunnel rings, each installed within a tunnel with an inner diameter of 5.8 metres.
The project involves the construction of two parallel circular tunnels for up and down movement along the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, with the second parallel tunnel anticipated to complete by September 2024.
