On August 9, 2024, the Lok Sabha passed the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill, 2024.
The bill is to replace the Aircraft Act of 1934, with targets to modernise the policy framework around India’s civil aviation sector. The ecosystem associated with the sector is also aimed to be strengthened. Among others, it also targets to set the policy framework related to safety standards, regulatory oversight, and align the sector with international standards.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation also aims to set up an efficient online mechanism in order to address the grievances of people especially regarding the rise in airfares.
