TBM DZ1040 achieves first breakthrough at Sterling Road station under Chennai metro rail project phase II in Tamil Nadu

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) DZ1040 achieved its first breakthrough of package TU-02 at the Sterling Road station of corridor III under the Chennai metro rail project phase II.

Package TU-02 involves construction of approximately 12 km long twin bored tunnels from Kellys Station to Taramani Road Junction and construction of diaphragm walls, entry/exit structures of Chetpet Station, Royapettah Government Hospital Station, Thiruvanmiyu Station, and part diaphragm wall of Greenways Road Station, including launching and retrieval shafts.

The project involves development of 118.9 km three metro corridors (corridor III, IV and V) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu which are mostly underground with elevated section confined to few short stretches and consists of 128 stations in total.
