The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly finalised a master plan for the Bhopal airport in Madhya Pradesh, targeted towards future expansions and to streamline development of the airport. It is planned to be implemented in three stages, to be completed by 2047.
Phase 1 is likely to comprise of the terminal building expansion, new parking areas, and upgrading the air traffic control systems. While, the phase 2 will include the construction of new taxiways, aprons, and hangars, and the further expansion of the terminal building.
The final phase of the project will include the expansion of the runway to 4,000 meters, which would have an additional land requirement of 65 acres. Approval has already been sought from the state government for the same.
The plan has reportedly taken into account the expected passenger and cargo traffic rise, in addition to the requirements for improved infrastructure and facilities, targeted to meet the long-term requirements.
