Indian Railway has conducted the first trial run of the Vande metro train, on the route between Villivakkam and Walajah road, in Chennai on August 3, 2024. The speed trial was conducted by the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety.
It is an air-conditioned train with a total of 12 coaches which has been indigenously manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai. The service is being operationalised for inter-city travel and can cover a distance of about 150-200 km with a maximum speed of 110 km per hour.
