Indian Railways to operationalise its first hydrogen train during 2024-25

Indian Railways (IR) is likely to operationalise its first hydrogen train service during 2024-25. Reportedly, IR is planning to launch a total of 50 hydrogen trains by 2047. This service is a part of IR’s sustainable measures, as it will help in reducing the overall level of carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, 6,511 general coaches have been cumulatively added to different train services of IR, during 2019-20 to 2023-24. Further, three companies have been approved for installation of KAVACH, with eight more under consideration.
