The Ministry of Railways (MoR) is aiming to achieve freight revenue of Rs 1.8 trillion during 2024-25 with the transportation of 1,650 million tonnes (mt) of freight. Moreover, about Rs 910 billion, of this revenue, will be generated through the transportation of coal. The MoR has also estimated passenger traffic to be around 7.4 billion for 2024-25.
During 2023-24, the Indian Railways (IR) registered revenue of Rs 1.69 trillion from freight loading and Rs 730 billion from passenger traffic. For the ongoing year, IR is focusing on lowering the operating ratio to 98.22 per cent as against 98.65 per cent registered in 2023-24.
