Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) S-94 achieved its second breakthrough at Central Warehouse station under Package CS2/UG1, corridor 1 of the Surat metro rail project phase I. This is the fourth tunnel breakthrough under the package.
Package CS2 / UG1 involves the design, construction and completion of underground stations and tunnel including finishes from Kapodra ramp to Surat railway station from chainage [(Ch) 3700 metres to 7160.6 metres], comprising a twin bored underground tunnel between the northern ramp and Surat railway metro station, all cut and cover portion including three underground stations viz. Kapodra, Labheshwar Chowk and Central Warehouse with entry/exits and connecting subway by box pushing method and a portion of New Austrian Tunnelling Method and launching and receiving chambers of TBM. The joint venture of SAM India Built Well Private Limited and Gülermak Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt A.Ş. was awarded its contract.
The Surat metro project involves development of 40.35 km long metro rail in Gujarat at an investment of Rs 120.2 billion. It consists of two corridors, corridor 1 involves a 21.61 km long Sardhana-Dream city corridor including a 6.47 km long underground section; while, corridor 2 involves an 18.74 km long Bhesan-Saroli section, which is a fully elevated corridor.
