Mysuru City Corporation has developed a comprehensive master plan to set up wastewater treatment facilities in four different areas of the city.
Similar to the approach adopted by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, this initiative aims at processing 14 million litres per day (mld) of wastewater for distribution to residents. The city has been facing an impending drinking water crisis.
Currently, the Vani Vilas Water Works authorities supply 235 mld of water to 65 ward areas in the city. The source of this water is the Kapila and Cauvery rivers. However, around 14 mld of treated drinking water is still unfit for human consumption. This water is getting wasted because of the absence of a backwashing water treatment plant.
