Vizhinjam International Seaport receives its first mothership

On July 11, 2024, the Vizhinjam International Seaport, Thiruvananthapuram, received its first mothership, the MV San Fernando. The vessel is owned by SFL Corporation and chartered by Maersk (AP Moller Group).

The Vizhinjam Seaport has a natural draft of 18-20 metres and can host some of the largest container vessels.

The Vizhinjam Seaport project involves the construction of a greenfield, deepwater international container transshipment terminal in Kerala on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis for a concession period of 40 years. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 77 billion.
