The Mangaluru International Airport, Karnataka witnessed the formal launch of international cargo operations on July 5, 2024.
This follows approximately one year after the commencement of domestic cargo services at the airport in May 2023. The move would facilitate the export of perishables like fresh fruits, vegetables, textiles, shoes, etc. from coastal Karnataka and Kerala in the form of belly cargo. The airport handled around 3,706 tonnes of cargo during the first 11 months from May 2023. This includes around 279 tonnes of inbound cargo and around 3,426.8 tonnes of outbound cargo.
