The Cabinet of Assam has approved water supply projects for Karimganj and Hailakandi towns in the state.
The scope of work includes the construction of a 12.66 million litres per day (mld) water treatment plant (WTP) in Hailakandi for which raw water will be drawn from Katakhal River. Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) automation will also be enabled to provide 135 litres per capita per day (lpcd) water to a population of 60,425 by 2055 at an estimated cost of Rs 727.4 million.
Furthermore, the scope of work in Karimganj includes the construction of a 16 mld WTP for which raw water will be drawn from Longai River with SCADA automation, district metered areas concept and advanced water loss reduction strategies to provide 135 lpcd water to a population of 101,430 by 2055 at an estimated cost of Rs 811.8 million.
