The Union government has approved the scheme guidelines for Development of Pipeline Infrastructure (DPI) for injecting compressed biogas (CBG) into city gas distribution (CGD) entailing a financial outlay of Rs 9.94 billion during the financial year 2024-25.
It would help achieve full CBG offtake by utilising cost-effective pipeline transportation from production to consumption sites, thereby maximising CBG utilisation.
Some of the key objectives of the scheme include overcoming financial hurdles in pipeline infrastructure development, establishing strong supply network in CBG producing areas, and reducing carbon footprints among others.
