NHAI has set a construction target of 5,000 km for 2024-25, a 22 per cent decrease from 6,444 km in the previous year. To date, NHAI has completed 762.30 km of highways, with an overall construction of 1,288 km for April-May 2024, compared to 1,465 km during the same period in 2023-24.
The reduced target is attributed to a slowdown in construction and new project awards due to the model code of conduct in effect for most of the first quarter. No new projects were awarded during April-May 2024, while 382 km were awarded in the same period last year.
