Around 0.66 million residents in Okkiam Thoraipakkam, Madipakkam, and Madhavaram are expected to receive piped water supply from early July 2024. Metrowater is running the last batch of trials in these areas to provide water connections. Reportedly, around 76 million litres of water a day (mld) of water will be supplied to these areas, of which 33 mld will be received by Madhavaram, 25 mld by Madipakkam and around 18 mld by Okkiam Thoraippakkam.
Besides, trial runs for piped water supply started a few months ago in the Nerkundram area and are expected to be completed by July 2024. 84,000 houses in the area will get 12 mld of piped water from August 2024. Additionally, water supply is expected to start in August 2024 in the Ramapuram area, along Mount-Poonamallee Road (where Chennai Metro Rail Limited’s phase 2 corridor may open in 2026).
