The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has announced its plans to set up sewage treatment plants (STPs) along all major drains. This has been initiated to prevent the discharge of untreated wastewater into the nearby Subernarekha and Kharkhai rivers.
Currently, 17 large drains in the JNAC’s area discharge more than 10 million litres per day of untreated water into the two rivers. Reportedly, a specialised team will conduct a physical survey of all drains including small and large drains in the JNAC’s jurisdiction. This survey report will help start the process of awarding contracts to construct STPs.
