Sanctioned almost 12 years ago, the 555 km Mumbai-Goa Highway is likely to be operational by December 2024. According to the state public works department (PWD), construction is underway, with the 42 km stretch between Panvel and Kasu is 99 per cent completed. The highway, costing Rs 440 billion, is being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) along with various state agencies.
The project is divided into 10 packages, six of which have been completed. Remaining work includes the tunnel in package 3, with one side already operational and the other set to open by July 15, 2024. Minor works in package 1 will be completed by December 2024. The 42 km stretch between Kasu and Indapur is 45 per cent completed and is being expedited.
