IR achieves electrification of 63,456 rkm till April 2024

Indian Railways (IR) has achieved electrification of a total of 63,456 route kilometres (rkm) of its network till April 2024. This is about 96 per cent higher than the combined broad gauge routes of IR.

Besides, IR has taken various initiatives towards sustainability, which includes facilitating total 2,637 stations and service buildings with 177 megawatts (MW) capacity of solar rooftop plants, guidelines with Super-ECBC compliance and environment management policies for the redevelopment of stations among others. Further it has also installed 90 sewage treatment plants, 86 water recycling plants, 65 effluent treatment plants, 18 waste to energy plants.
