Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is preparing for a major renovation of all mass rapid transit system (MRTS) stations in Chennai, aiming to enhance the commuter experience and upgrade facilities. A detailed project report is expected to be submitted within four or five months, addressing deficiencies in amenities such as escalators, lifts, and maintenance services. The report will also focus on optimising station space and promoting commercial development in surrounding areas, ensuring convenient access for commuters.
While awaiting approval from the Railway Board for the MRTS takeover, CMRL is proactively preparing for the transition, emphasising gradual improvements and efficient utilisation of station resources.
