Tambaram Corporation has started desilting more than 30 canals and silt catch pits of stormwater drains to avoid flooding and improve water flow. Around 165 workers in 70 wards have been deployed to remove plastic waste, wrappers, and bottles from drains and canals.
Further, five earthmover machines are also being used for these wards. These preventive measures are important to prepare for heavy rainy season.
