A biotechnology solution called sequential continuous-flow reactor (SCR) system has been launched by Smart Ops to improve access to clean water in India. Smart Ops is a global environmental technology company that leverages material science, biotechnology, and engineering advancements.
The SCR system verified by the Ministry of Jal Shakti allows faster treatment of water as compared to traditional water treatment technologies or natural processes. An important component of this system is the SABRE Spheres which are stabilised aerobic or anaerobic bioengineered reaction environments. They emulate the natural filtration capabilities of oysters. This technology enables continuous active filtration reducing costs, infrastructure needs, and energy requirements.
