DPR for Nemom (Balaramapuram)-Vizhinjam, Kerala port rail connectivity project approved 

The detailed project report (DPR) for the Nemom (Balaramapuram)-Vizhinjam port rail connectivity project has been approved. The project involves development of a 10.7 km, with about 9.46 km of tunnel, long rail line between Nemom (Balaramapuram) and Vizhinjam Port in Kerala.

It is expected to provide connectivity to the seaport. The tracks would be laid on broad gauge. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 14 billion. The project is being undertaken by Konkan Rail Corporation Limited (KRCL). The tunnel will be constructed in 36 months using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
