The desilting plan for 2024-25 by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is focused on checking the cleaning of internal drains with a depth of less than four feet in all unauthorised colonies in the city. This initiative has been undertaken to prevent waterlogging of drains during the monsoon season.
MCD targets to clear 127,608 tonnes of waste from 713 drains with more than four feet depth and 82,642 tonnes from 20,884 smaller drains. Currently, at least 15 colonies in West Delhi have been addressed and all areas and villages in East, South, and North Delhi are planned to be covered as well.
Besides, MCD will remove 78,516 tonnes of silt in the first phase by June 15, 2024, and 47,593 tonnes in the second phase by March 2025.
