The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is to soon begin the refurbishment works on two domestic terminals at the Chennai airport.
The work is likely to be completed in the next six to eight months. The domestic terminals T1 and T4 are currently functional. Reportedly, the contracts for refurbishing both terminals have been awarded and the work is likely to commence within two months. The refurbishments are likely to increase the space at the security hold area, and also lead to additional space for food and beverage, and retail outlets, and seating area. The terminals have a current cap of 14 departures an hour, of which nine are from T1 and five from T4. With the expansion, the AAI would be able to seek permission to increase the domestic departures. Work has also commenced on the new integrated building’s second phase and is targeted for completion by the end of 2025.
