Kerala High Court puts a halt on land acquisition related works at Sabarimala airport

On April 25, 2024, the state government was directed by the Kerala High Court to halt any further steps related to the preliminary notification for land acquisition for the construction of the Sabarimala Greenfield airport in Kerala for two months.

Site and defence clearance for the airport has already been granted by the Centre. Earlier in February 2024, security clearance application was under consideration, and an environmental impact study had been carried out. Further, recommendations had been submitted by the expert committee selected to review the final social impact assessment (SIA), and land acquisition for the 2,570 acres of land had been initiated.
