Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) is planning to expand maintenance depot at Central Park under the Kolkata East-West Metro Project. The capacity will be increased to accommodate 29 rakes from existing 23 rakes. Besides, 11 more six-car rakes (taking the number to 25) are likely to be introduced by 2026. The project involves construction and operation of 16.6 km long metro connecting Sector 5, Salt Lake in Kolkata to Howrah Maidan through an underwater metro track in West Bengal.
