Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the government of Uttar Pradesh are planning to augment and construct STPs in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh respectively for the cleaning of Shahdara Drain. DJB is planning to either increase the capacity of Yamuna Vihar STP or construct a new STP to treat 85 million gallons per day (mgd) sewage generated. Currently, 45 mgd is being treated out of total generation of 85 mgd. Government of Uttar Pradesh is planning to construct two new STPs and is in consultation with NMCG on the need to convert the existing STP to a common effluent treatment plant to treat 50 mgd of untreated sewage released in the drain.
