Telangana commission announces no grid support charges for solar rooftop

The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission has declined to enforce grid support charges (GSC) on rooftop solar setups, regardless of whether they are operating with net-metering or gross-metering setups. It was asserted that GSC should exclusively be levied on captive power plants, specifically for the electricity consumed by the co-located load. Furthermore, given that retail supply tariffs have already been established for the fiscal year (FY) 2023-24 and the end of the year is approaching, the commission opted against setting GSC for FY 2023-24. Alternatively, it directed state distribution companies to submit a distinct application for GSC determination for FY 2024-25, adhering to its methodology.
