The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has granted approval to operate the Sittwe Port in Myanmar. India Ports Global (IPGL), a company fully owned by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is set to take charge of operations at the Sittwe Port. Situated along the Kaladan River, the port holds strategic importance due to its proximity to the Indian Ocean. India will enhance its maritime connectivity and trade routes, by getting operational control over this port. This will not only strengthen the country’s maritime capabilities but reflects its commitment to safeguarding its strategic interests in the Indian Ocean.
