On March 28, 2024, Kanpur Metro Rail Project achieved a significant milestone with the completion of the first tunnel on the 4.24 km long underground section between Kanpur Central and Transport Nagar, falling under Corridor-1 from Indian Institute of Technology to Naubasta. The ‘Azad’ tunnel boring machine (TBM) made a breakthrough by successfully constructing a 1,250 metreslong tunnel from Kanpur Central to Nayaganj.
