Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) awarded the concession to DP World Limited for the mega container terminal project at Tuna-Tekra in Kandla Port on March 14, 2024. The project is likely to commence operations by early 2027. The project involves development of a container terminal at Tuna Tekra in the state, on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis under PPP mode at an estimated cost of Rs 42.44 billion for a concession period of 30 years with an option to extend for an additional 20 years. The capacity of the terminal will be 2.19 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The berth shall be designed for handling vessels of up to 6,000 TEUs and up to 14 metres draft. The construction period is 36 months. It is being implemented under the National Infrastructure Pipeline.
