Centre inaugurates several rail projects in West Bengal

The central government inaugurated various rail projects in West Bengal on March 1, 2024. The first is the 90 km long Jhargram-Salgajhari rail section of the Kharagpur-Adityapur railway third line project. The project involves development of a third line between Kharagpur and Adityapur in West Bengal and Jharkhand, respectively, covering a distance of 132 km with an investment of Rs 11.16 billion. The second is the Sondalia-Champapukur line doubling project, involving doubling of the existing 23.64 km long rail line between Sondalia and Champapukur in West Bengal, with an investment of Rs 2.7 billion. The third is the Dankuni-Bhattanagar rail line doubling project, involving doubling of the 6.5 km long rail line between Dankuni and Bhattanagar with material modification of a 2.44 km long Bhattanagar-Baltikuri rail section in West Bengal, at an estimated cost of Rs 1.04 billion.
