Centre inaugurates Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Maharashtra

The central government has inaugurated the Marathwada rail coach factory in Latur district of Maharashtra. It will manufacture Vande Bharat train sets for Indian Railways, with its modern and updated machinery. Other projects inaugurated in the state include a wagon repair workshop at Badnera, which will provide its services for Central Railway’s freight depots at Bhusaval and Nagpur and a Vande Bharat chair car maintenance-cum-workshop depot in Pune. Besides, the first phase of locomotive production unit was inaugurated at Dahod in Gujarat, which would facilitate the production of 1,200 locomotives with a capacity of 9,000 horse power (HP) and equipped with IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor)-based propulsion technology. Siemens is the technology partner for the facility and has been awarded a contract worth Rs 260 billion for the production and maintenance of locomotives for 35 years. The second phase of the unit is likely to be inaugurated by September 2024 with a target of first locomotive production by December 2024.
