About 95 per cent of work has been completed for the Bijapur Airport Project (Vijayapura). Construction of the runway, taxiway, flight line, isolation bay, joining paths, peripheral road, interior road and other civil works have been completed while work on the air traffic control (ATC) tower and associated facilities is underway. Besides, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has completed a safety check at the airport. The project involves the development and operation of a greenfield airport at an investment of Rs 3.5 billion in two phases. Phase I includes construction of a terminal building, a runway, levelling of ground and associated facilities such as aprons, taxiways at an estimated cost of Rs 950 million, while Phase II involves hangers, isolated parking bay, ground support equipment (GSE), ATC and fire station.
