Improvement in air traffic and reduction in flight delays at Mumbai airport

As per the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the Mumbai airport witnessed an improvement in the air traffic situation and a reduction in flight delays. This follows around two months after measures including flight reductions were issued to handle the airport’s congestion. Of the 4,337 arrivals at the airport between February 16, 2024, and February 24, 2024, there were zero flight delays exceeding one hour, and 178 aircraft witnessed delays between 30 and 60 minutes. Further, 570 aircraft witnessed arrivals before schedule. Meanwhile, of the 14,476 arrivals at the airport between November 11, 2023, and December 10, 2023, 1,641 aircraft witnessed delays by more than an hour, and 2,141 aircraft were delayed between 30 and 60 minutes. Earlier, on January 2, 2024, MoCA directed the airport to restrict non-scheduled flight operations during specific time periods, and later directed the airport on February 15, 2024, to reduce aircraft movement from 46 to 44 per hour during high intensity runway operations (HIRO) and from 44 to 42 per hour during non-HIRO.
