India’s toll collection on national highways exceeded Rs 500 billion by end January 2024, reaching Rs 532.89 billion.
This increase is attributed to the expansion of tolled roads and the continuous addition of new FASTag users annually. The average monthly collection from April 2023 to January 2024 was Rs 53.28 billion, indicating that toll collection for 2023-24 is projected to reach a record Rs 620 billion.
The total toll length in the country has also risen substantially from 25,996 km in 2018-19 to 45,428 km as of November-end in 2023-24, marking a 75 per cent increase. The government’s plan to transition to a GPS-based toll collection system is expected to further boost toll revenue.
