Construction work on two underground water reservoirs under 24×7 Manimajra water supply pilot project gets completed

The construction work on two underground water reservoirs with hydrostatic testing has been completed under the 24×7 Manimajra water supply pilot project. These reservoirs have a combined capacity of 4 million gallons per day. Along with that, 22 km of 25 km of pipelines have been laid. The project is likely to be completed by June 2024. It involves new waterworks with four million gallons of additional storage, 13,700 smart meters, 20 km of new lines, and automated monitoring of the system. It is being implemented at Manimajra in Chandigarh in two phases on a pilot basis at an estimated cost of Rs 5.12 billion. Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has incorporated Chandigarh Smart City Limited as a special purpose vehicle for the implementation of the project under the Smart City Mission. It is being funded by the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) and the European Union (EU). AFD will provide Rs 4.12 billion for the project on a loan basis while the EU will also be giving a grant of Rs 1 billion for the project.
