South Central Railway (SCR) has commissioned the 20.3 km long Karavadi-Surareddipalem rail section of the Vijayawada-Gudur third line project. The project involves laying of a 287.67 km long third line along with electrification works on the existing Vijayawada-Gudur railway line in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 32.46 billion. It was sanctioned in the railway budget 2015-16 and will cater to increasing traffic of food grains and goods traffic from Krishnapatnam and nearby ports and demands of various loading points. The construction work is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in three packages viz. Gudur-Bitragunta (75 km), Bitragunta-Karavadi (89 km) and Karavadi-Krishna Canal (Vijayawada) (124 km).
