The Union Government inaugurated the 48 km Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section and the 185.66 km long newly electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section of the Jammu-Udhampur-Katra-Qazigund-Baramulla railway line project on February 20, 2024. The project involves laying of 345 km long new railway line joining the Kashmir Valley with IR network from Jammu to Baramulla via Udhampur, Katra and Qazigund with an investment of Rs 376.74 billion. It is expected to provide an alternative and a reliable transportation system to Jammu and Kashmir.
