The central government inaugurated sewerage projects at Mathura and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh on January 25, 2024. These include the Mathura Sewerage Project Zone I, which involves the construction of a 30 mld STP, the rehabilitation and upgradation of a 6.8 mld STP, the rehabilitation of 30 mld of existing STPs in the trans-Yamuna region, and the construction of a 20 mld tertiary treatment and reverse osmosis plant for Rs 4.6 billion. It also includes the Moradabad Sewerage Project Zone I, which involves the construction of a 58 mld STP, a 264 km long sewerage network and nine sewerage pumping stations for the abatement of pollution in the Ramganga river at a cost of Rs 3.3 billion.
