Government allocates funds worth Rs 249.32 billion for various metro rail and MRTS projects

The government has allocated funds worth Rs 249.32 billion (BE) for various metro rail and mass rapid transit system (MRTS) projects under the interim union budget 2024-25. The allocation is 7.58 per cent higher than the BE of Rs 231.75 billion and 7.93 per cent higher than the revised estimate of Rs 231 billion for fiscal year 2023-24. Of the total allocation, a sum of Rs 35.96 billion has been sanctioned as grants to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation for the implementation of regional rapid transit system projects in the National Capital Region areas. Furthermore, the expansion of the metro rail and NaMo Bharat will be supported in large cities, owing to a focus on transit-oriented development.
