Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has completed construction of a North Eastern Railway (NER) electric loco shed in Ghazipur. It is likely to be inaugurated soon and will provide several benefits, such as making repair and maintenance work for locomotives easier, and lowering the consumption of energy by 15 to 20 per cent through the use of electric engines, which in turn, will reduce the overall expenses for the railways. Further, it will cover four categories of maintenance for the engines – IA for general check-up of the engines every three months, IB for greasing of the engines every six months, IC for checking of wheels and other elements of the engines every nine months, and Term Overhaul. Through this, around 100 electric engines in the loco shed will always be equipped for use in the divisions of NER, as required.
